Biking Effort Guide

Type: (A) Advanced

  • Description: Strenuous – Swift
  • Minimum: more difficult terrain, or long distance
  • Average Riding Speed: About 15 mph – riders may ride faster or slower
  • Riders Must Have: Intermediate to advanced cycling skills; spare tube, patch kit, pump
  • Rest Stops: About every 20-30 miles
  • Repairs: riders fix their own bikes

Type: (B) Intermediate

  • Description: Moderate, Brisk – Social, but emphasis is on riding – A good choice for experienced riders
  • Minimum: group riders – generally intermediate or greater pace, terrain and distance
  • Average Riding Speed: About 12 mph
  • Riders Must Have: intermediate cycling skills; spare tube, patch kit, pump
  • Rest Stops: About every 15-20 miles
  • Repairs: leader helps

Type: (C) Basic

  • Description: Easy – Social emphasis, but for those with riding experience – generally
  • Minimum: intermediate pace, terrain and distance
  • Average Riding Speed: About 11 mph or less
  • Riders Must Have: basic cycling skills; spare tube, patch kit, pump
  • Rest Stops: About every 10-15 miles
  • Repairs: leader helps
